JG:Clinic part 4 - Print it out!
A couple of years ago James and I were at the London Marathon Expo, eating too many sweets. A very excited chap called Alan bounded over to show us his business cards. Sadly we don't have a photo, and I think it succumbed to the Great Flood of 2006, but he'd made a card with his Justgiving url on it.
'I don't have everyone's email address' he said.
'Wow, that's awesome' said James and I in unison.
Well as part of the Clinic, I'd like to expand on this idea a little.
Cards are great for lots of reasons:
- they fit in your wallet
- they're not sponsorship forms, so no hassle
- you can make them look nice
- you'll get sponsorship from people in the pub whose email address you don't have
- they're still not sponsorship forms
So where to get them done? Well the cheap option is to make them yourself, print them out, chop them up and get busy dishing them out.
The slightly less cheap, but more exciting option is to go and check out our friends at moo.com
All you need is a flickr photo account and a spare tenner, and they'll print 100 individually customised cards for you and deliver them in double-quick time. If you don't have a flickr account they've still got some great galleries to choose from.
Here's some moo cards:
Aren't they pretty? Check out this Canadian blogger who is doing this right now.
Give it a go, print them out and let us know if it makes a difference. We owe it to Alan.

Hi Simon, What is the picture of above the picture of a bridge on the montage?
Also, who won the 50 quid in Feb? Pick me, pick me! If not, I'll keep trying, like my running...

I don't know where the bridge is, you'd have to try and track down the photo on flickr. Sadly they're not my moo cards, because if they were they'd have fry-ups and golf clubs on the back instead of pretty trees and bridges!
As for the 50 quid, well I'm deciding this week. There's been some great entries but I want to give a few more people a chance.

Hi Simon
I have had some cards done and they work really well. I have the Cycle India map on the front with my url and phone numbers and the Women for Women logo on the back. I hand them out to just about everyone I meet and they have paid dividends already. I also give them to all the entrants to the quiz that we hold in our local each month in aid of the cause.
This week I launched a book box at work. I put about 12 books in and asked people to buy a book for 50p and/or donate their unwanted paperbacks. In just a week I have raised £10 and the box is overflowing! Could this be a self-perpetuating fund-raiser. As they say 'every little helps'!

You could probably get some free cards done at vistaprint. They normally provide free business cards. They put their logo on the back, but who cares right?
I'm probably going to do that.
Cheers,
Steve

I make my own cards using blanks from PC world. I have my blog logo on the front, with my jg url and a few words about my charity and the Great North Run. On the back i have two photos, one of me before, and one of me after losing 15 stone !!! TISM is short for The Incredible Shrinking Man - my current nickname!!
These work really well, and i just print more out whenever i need them.
Cheers
