Burma Cyclone Appeal

The photos we've seen of the devastation after the Burma cyclone are pretty shocking.

_44628430_floods226_2

The Burmese government is making an appeal for aid and we imagine lots of you will want to help however you can.

We've made a dedicated fundraising page so it's easy for you to make a donation

YouTube deadline is today!

It's a good day to load up the video editor.

Those who have already entered our £500 YouTube competition for FLM runners are numerous. And very creative.

Today is the last chance to finish up your video, embed it to your Justgiving page and email us your JG link to youtube@justgiving.com

Sophie and I will duly watch them *all* tomorrow whilst trying to make it look like we're doing real work. Then we'll pick a winner and post the results here soon afterwards.

So, fire up iMovie or MovieMaker and get cracking. You've got until midnight tonight!

Record-Breaking Marathon

So it's all over for another year.

We'd like to say well done to everyone who took part in the Flora London Marathon on Sunday. It was brilliant to meet so many of you at the Expo last week and we hope you all had some fun with our MOO stickerbooks.

Firstly, we'd like to say an extra special well done to Jan in our Finance team who completed the course in a highly respectable 4 hours and 26 minutes! And he's back at his desk doing spreadsheety stuff already. Top stuff.

Secondly, we made a little video from the Expo. Did you run into our *Stickermen*? Here's a snippet of their adventures:

And finally, we passed a huge milestone on Friday the 11th of April. Thanks to the 16,000+ runners using Justgiving and all the brilliant people sponsoring them, we smashed through the £1m-of-donations-in-one-day-not-including-Gift-Aid barrier.

Amazing.

2008 is proving to be another record-breaking year for online fundraising and it's all down to the hard work you guys do to get the word out and get those donations in. We're totally humbled by it.

Well done everyone! Roll on 2009 :)

PS. Our YouTube competition is still running and things are really hotting up. Read more to find out how to enter and you could win a £500 donation to your Justgiving page. Pretty useful for getting up and over that target!

Chugging? Seriously?

The internet is really good for all the stuff we find embarrassing to do in real life - and for lots of people (especially us Brits) asking for money is one of the hardest.

Today we came across two articles bemoaning the ease of giving online to support your friends from opposite ends of the publishing spectrum. One was in the Telegraph and the other said exactly the same thing in the Independent. It happened last year too.

Obviously, this week, it's highly likely that you know someone who is taking part this weekend. You might have sponsored them already, or plan to do so in the next few weeks. Odds-on you might get asked by more than one person. Decisions, decisions.

We all have our own personal rules about who or what we donate to, and it can become a contest in lots of cases. There's not much that can be done about that - communication is easier in the digital age. That's a good thing.

So here's our advice on how to prevent JG fatigue:

1. Remain anonymous.

You don't have to use your real name. Nobody will hold it against you - the internet was built on avatars after all.

2. Delete emails.

Ignoring email is much easier than ignoring someone standing infront of you with a form.

3. Give when you're ready.

There's plenty of time. Loads. Pre-JG it used to take charities months and months to get all their sponsorship money sent in. If a request comes in today, it can be dealt with when you're comfortable with it. The point is, when you do make the donation you can be safe in the knowledge you've made someone's day, regardless of the amount.

If you've got any ideas on how to make the warm and fuzzies better then please tell us, it's your website too.

*Update* The Guardian did speak some sense last month.

FLM - What to do if you're *not* taking part anymore :(

Crikey it's all happening this Sunday!

If for any reason you can't take part in the marathon this year, here's what you need to do:

1. Email your donors to find out if anyone would like a refund and collate a list of their names.

2. Contact your charity explaining why you can't take part and send them your list of refund requests. The charity then needs to send a written refund request to help@justgiving.net

3. Get in touch with our helpdesk at help@justgiving.net and ask us to set your Justgiving page to 'completed', so that people can still see your page but can't make any more donations.

If you're offered a place in next year's Marathon, it's a good idea to check whether your charity would prefer you to create a new Justgiving page or if they're happy for you to use the one you have already. We can't change the event details, but we can extend the life of the page if you get in touch with our helpdesk at help@justgiving.net

Here's what Layla did when she had to roll her marathon place over from last year to this year - we think it's a pretty nifty solution.

Jan is running the marathon!

JanOur very own Finance Manager, Jan, has impressed us all by deciding to run the London marathon. You can see how seriously he's taking his training, read our encouraging messages and sponsor him here: www.justgiving.com/janbraglewicz

He’ll be the second person from Justgiving to undertake the challenge - the first was our ex-Content Editor Caro back in 2004: www.justgiving.com/caroline

We’re very proud to have another member of the Justgiving office joining the ranks of so many of our impressive Justgiving FLM runners and fundraisers.

So good luck Jan (and everyone else) and keep up the good work!

News from some of our Friends

Right. So we're back from America. The $ was weak, the BBQ was spicy and the project was enlightening. To say the least. And we nearly ended up going to Glasgow because of all the silly weather we're having.

Picture_1 One of the best bits of inbox candy we get each week is the Innocent News from everyone's favourite bottled fruit peddlers - Innocent Drinks. If your Wednesday is devoid of fun emails, then I suggest you sign up for it.

They're doing another fundraising challenge, this time rowing (virtually) round the UK for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Go and support them on their Justgiving page.

Secondly, our good friends over at MOO are running a rather exciting Easter Egg hunt. Check out their blog for more info, and if you haven't ordered your fundraising cards (or thank-you cards), then I suggest you get on it, sharpish. They're the new black, seriously.

And finally.

We want to say well done to Dotty Rhino for winning an award at the Bloggies. Check out Jonno's post about it for the scoop.

Listening to the States

A whole battalion of JGers are off to the USA next week. We will be:

- observing some listening labs. In a secure facility.
- taking advantage of how rubbish the dollar is.
- eating burgers.
- buying lots of macs.

It's going to have a big impact on how stuff works in the future and we're really excited.

Kai is One

Firstbirthday One of our designers, Kai, of KaiChanVong.com fame (tumblr FTW), is celebrating his first birthday at JG.

So as a suitable dedication, here's our favourite [kaiquote] from 2007, and we're looking forward to many more in 2008.

Sophie: You haven't been coming out with as many amazing Kai-quotes as usual...you've been more sensible lately....that's the general trend from my perspective anyway...

Kai: Yeah. I am pretty trendy...

Stay Frosty

Bit of blog silence. Sorry about that. Lots happening as usual.

Best place to see what's going chez JG is on Flickr, so here's a nice slideshow for you:

Created with Admarket's flickrSLiDR.

We've been doing paper prototyping.

We've been talking to users.

We've been to the park.

We're eating lots of soup because it's cold.

There's still weekly (if not daily) doses of cake around.

We've been looking at lots of numbers, sorting them in rows and putting them into graphs with marble backgrounds.

We've lost a few great people and found some lovely new ones. More on them later.

We've also been adding friends like mad on MySpace and pushing out MOO cards.

Email me something brilliant that's not:

a) a fake John Lewis voucher

b) that free iPhone competition I don't remember entering but win about 10 times a day, or

c) a virus

and I'll send you a 10% discount code.

On top of all that, we've been building lots of cool stuff for fundraising pages that we're going to be releasing before Christmas. Because it's the season.

The fat pets are back

Sec9763_1 Guess what - it's Pet Fit Club time again!

This year six portly dogs and two massive moggies (like George here) are taking part in the challenge to lose weight and shape up - and raise some money for PDSA while they're at it.

You can see all of the porky pets here - and sponsor their weight loss efforts!

Good luck to them all.

For Dina

Dsc00411
Dina Rabinovitch, the journalist, blogger and fundraiser died yesterday.

We'd like to pass on our thoughts to her family and all those who knew her. She wrote some great stuff for our blog which has helped many others to raise more money.

Together we can help her hit that target for the CTRT appeal.

Guardian lead story in G2.

Watch her total grow:

Scary stuff!

Img_1808small Bats It's a scary day here at JG towers. Our logo has been infested by bats (thanks Kai!) and it seems that suddenly there are tons of frightening fundraisers out there...

There's Dianne and Paula who are spending the night at the haunted Edinburgh Vaults...

Jason who's going to be hanging out with paranormal investigators and a clairvoyant medium at Woodchester Mansion...

And Angie (pictured) who is spending Hallowe'en night in a haunted jail!

Visiting Martin

A group of intrepid JGers made it to the wilds of Buckinghamshire to visit Martin in hospital. Martin's one of our support developers and he's been recovering from spinal injury for most of this year. We're really looking forward to welcoming him back.

Here are the highlights of the trip on Friday:

* A flu-ridden Sabitha and Rasha running for a train at Marylebone - it was only 30 metres and we almost had to get the defib machines out - then again 30 paces for Will, 130 for them.
* Arriving to find Martin asleep at the table in the hospital cafe.
* Rasha breaking her fast with a massive slice of cake within 5 minutes of arriving - and it then being too stale to eat.
* Us finding the most manic cabbie in the county who seemed to squeeze as many trips as possible in-between bookings, even if the fare was waiting - even if the fare was an old woman - even if she was disabled.
* Ryan having his mid-afternoon "pub platter for four" whilst we sat and chatted.
* Molly taking charge of Martin and wheeling him backwards into the pub on two wheels to shouts of "What the *^@$'s going on?!" with all his usual Irish charm.
* Us missing the train home by 1 minute because no-one wanted to run to catch it (especially Rasha and a now close to death, Sabitha).
* The 20 minute wait being an opportunity for Ryan to go and buy more snacks from the post office.
* Everyone getting home far later than intended but agreeing it was worth it having had a jolly good afternoon:

Martin

(Notes about the above - Sabitha was not drinking Lager and Martin hoped you'd find it amusing to see him with his foot up on the chair - even if it took him 5 minutes to get it there.)
He's pretty much finished his physio and rehab and we're looking forward to having him back at work really soon.

Another Über Tartiflette

Just over a year ago, I wrote about my favourite thing in the world, Tartiflette. I write again now as I cooked this mystical French dish (loved by many, smelt by even more) for the office last night because I'm a really nice, generous person.

Well, actually, it's part of Gemma's new "Taste sensation" idea - where one person cooks something special for the JG team every week. So far we've had a perfect pie, baked by Gemma's fair hands and some fabulous flapjacks courtesy of Molly (which she served whilst I was taking a webinar - grrr)

Now, those of you who know me well will appreciate that I'm very humble and don't like to sing my own praises (Ed. who you kidding?), but you want to see what it looks like, admit it:

Dsc01850

Yes, it's even been cooked in a bona fide Tartiflette branded dish (thanks Mum)!

Now if you're curious as to what it is exactly and how it's made, here's my recipe:

Download jonnos_perfect_tartiflette_recette.doc

The key to a great Tartiflette is undoubtedly the reblochon cheese. It's not as hard as it used to be to come by, but a good cheese makes a big difference (the smellier the better, in my opinion).

And as seems to be the vogue at the moment, the popularity of anything is measured by how many people belong to a Facebook group for said programme/team/cheese.

And Tartiflette is no different: there are currently 177 members of The Tartiflette Appreciation society on the site. (although I'm the only one to have supplied photos. Tsk)

Plus, you really should check out reblochon's own propaganda ministry website at http://reblochon.fr as the adverts are extremely French and pretty, er, cheesy...

Bigger Than Microsoft

Fowatags FOWA was great. Well done Ryan and the team. There is now lots and lots of work to be done...

So What's Up?

Well, since you ask, quite a bit.

A whole armada of us are heading off to the Future of Web Apps down in Docklands this week. Personally it's one of my favourite events of the year and there is some seriously cool and inspiring stuff being talked about.

Last friday, we were all running round Soho pulling off challenges in a very fun JG day-out. We had very short spaces of time to 'take a picture of something risky' and re-make historical events via interpretative dance. It was awesome.

Here's Rich daringly eating a whole very, very hot chilli:

brave cry-baby

It was all brilliantly organised by the Connection Game, so if your company away-days sap your will to live, then check them out! More craziness on our flickr.

An ode to Justgiving

So, last Wednesday, in between talking like a pirate and arranging all sorts of exciting online training, I received an email that made me fall off my chair with laughter.

Yes, step forward Janet from Fairbridge and take a bow. In her own words:

We had an office get-together and we were charged with composing a poem in Pam Ayres style to do with an aspect of our work.

I wrote one about Justgiving – I thought it might amuse you.  It works best if you read it with a west country twang!

Well, not everyone was brave enough to attempt a dodgy accent (myself and Molly apart. And Josie is a Kiwi so no jokes there please) but we did all have a go at reading it and Kai's done a typically awesome job of splicing it all together. Enjoy!

An ode to Justgiving from Kai Chan Vong on Vimeo.

ps - the full poem in all its glory is below:

I look after Justgiving, me
There’s such a lot to do.
Each time I look at Outlook
There’s an email coming through
To tell me that another page
‘as been created on the site.
But the creator of said page
Hardly ever gets it right.
They put the wrong event name down
And then I have to guess
If they’re walking on hot coals
Or trying to eat less.
It’s a blimmin’ good website though
We’ve raised quarter of a mil
And, though they take off 5%,
It’s still not a bad deal.
I wish it ‘ad been my idea
To set up this Justgiving.
Because by now I’d be quite rich
And not be doing this for a living.

Janet - we salute you for literary genius (and much better poetry than our past efforts) :-)

Caveat 1 - apologies to Pam Ayres

Caveat 2 - Zarine said "Brilliant. I just wish the last but one line was as true as well!"

Caveat 3 - We were trying to remember the tune from this video at the end

Hitwise Report

Facebook2 Robin over at Hitwise has just published a super report about charities and Facebook, and particularly the impact our application has had on our userbase and traffic. Email is soooo 2006 (but obviously still really important).

There are some really cool graphs on there too, so go check it out stats-fans.

The Great Moo Sticker Project pt.1

We like charities. We like stickers.

After a brainstorm, we wanted to combine our love of charities and stickers into one almighty project.

And the JG Moo Sticker project was born.

Here's a preview:

Moostickers

It's going to be awesome.

Spons-arrrr me now

Ahoy there me hearties, as ye all know by now, it be "International Talk like a Pirate Day".

And what a grand excuse to fundraise for those pieces of eight, with your doubloons going to charities like Marie Curie Cancer Care.

They be jolly enough to create a scroll of pirate lingo to help ye out, and be showing paintings in their rogue's gallery of pirate fundraisers. A cat o'nine tails to all you land lubbers who don't sponsor them!

A yo ho ho and a bottle of rum to Cap'n Suzie, and her fundraising page! The good ship Justgiving salutes your plunder...

Here be Justgiving's own "Jolly Roger" (ahoy, Business Analyst) to fly on yer boats: Jolly_roger

And if ye ever run out of pirate (or parrot) paraphernalia, port yer vessel at San Francisco's only pirate supply store: 826 Valencia.
I sailed there this summer and bought me back a glass eye.

As they quote: "Definitely one of the top five pirate stores I've been to recently" - David Byrne.

ReadWriteWeb get giving

Rrw There's a really nice piece about our US cohorts Firstgiving, over on the very popular ReadWriteWeb blog.

"Who would you feel more comfortable giving to, a stranger knocking on your door asking for money for some organization, or a web site set up by that same stranger, working with an accredited non-profit and soliciting donations through an 8 year old company that has a track record of raising millions for non-profit groups?"

Well, quite.

There's been lots of great posts on fundraising and donating online over the course of this week, including posts about the potential of online, non-profits on Facebook and MySpace and many more.

Incidentally we are still rocking it on Facebook:

The Next Big Thing is only just around the corner...

Management 2.0

If you've ever wondered what CEOs and MDs actually do:

Amhzksnap

Yes. They play snap.

Friday round-up

It's one of those fridays. Those pre-bank-holiday fridays. The friday where you forgot to book the day off to create a glorious four day weekend. And you're at work with the handful of other folk who also forgot to book that friday off. Dang.

So here's a retrospective of the last few days from the JG lair:

- Jonno was trying out some new webinar software, and in so doing managed to become qualified in webinar delivery, and could probably put letters after his name to prove it.

Overqualified
(It's stuck to his in-tray)

- We celebrated 5,000 people using our first Facebook app. At the time of writing we're at 5,132. We hope you're all doing well with it.

- Staying with a Facebooky theme, Ro made an appreciation group for our favourite local eatery, Daddy Donkey. Sure enough, they've put a sign outside their van on Leather Lane saying so, and this week alone 127 fellow Daddy D lovers have joined up, expressing their joy for all things large and semi-mexican. It's full of photos like this:

Dd

- Kai broke his PC in full blue-screen-of-death glory, just as we were starting our top secret Moo Stickers project.

- I met a guy in our local (which fyi is here) with the same Threadless tee as me, so we took a picture:

Threadless

- Tom had his socks stolen at the gym. Seriously, who steals socks? At the gym?

- We all went for a cookery lesson in the city:

And we managed to do some work too. Enjoy the long weekend.

Newbie Avalanche

The Towers have been awash with new talent of late. Here's a shortlist of recent additions:

Soph Sophie is our new content editor. This is good news because no longer will you have to put up with my error-ridden, grammatically-suspect copy. In fact, this is probably the last unedited post I'll ever be allowed to write. Sophie's done lots of cool stuff in the past, including:

- working on projects for the BBC
- bullying Will at school in the early 90s
- writing things that got printed in proper newspapers

Carly Carly is our new Accounts Assistant, part of the ever-increasing finance empire here at JG. Her hobbies include:

- being a 'proper' Londoner
- sunburn
- putting up with Tim talking about football
- making the rest of us feel really, really old (she's 18!)

Gemma Gemma is new on the consumer helpdesk. She comes from an events fundraising background having worked at Two Large Charities in the past. Gemma enjoys:

- baking pies
- Simon Pegg
- being the best charity shop shopper in the whole of the UK

Matt Matt is our new Technical Architect. He's on paternity leave right now. Things Matt has been up to recently include:

- de-flooding his car
- doing amazing stuff with Facebook
- becoming a dad (congrats from us all!)

Rich Richard has come back to the JG fold after leaving in 2005. He's the lead developer on the product team and is helping to drive lots of cool projects. He's a big fan of:

- Open Source
- Subway coupons
- Pressing 'reply-to-all' in a questionably appropriate manner

Naren Naren is a new developer on Jason's sys-dev team. Naren's skills include:

- working on explosives (seriously)
- having an insane music collection
- being the oldest employee who reads comics

Pranav Pranav is from India originally and is our new test analyst. His top three notable features are:

- studying in the USA, at George Washington University
- having a pharmacy degree
- actually liking public transport in London

So there you have it. A true plethora of new talent. Welcome aboard everyone; onward and upward!

Some more stats!

A pretty cool growth chart of our first Facebook app.

Time for some Numbers

King of Excel Jonno has come up with some TV advert-style stats that we'd like to share.

ExceliscoolEvery 1 minute 9 seconds a fundraising page is made on JG.

Every 7.8 seconds a donation is made on JG.

In April (which is when the London Marathon is), this changes to:

A new page every 43 seconds and a donation every 5 seconds.

These figures were produced from our January to May 2007 stats. Isn't scalability marvellous?

iPhoooone

There must be something like a million blog posts about Apple's iPhone right now.

So one more can't hurt.

Jonno came back from his travels in the US this morning. He had two things with him.

The first is his brand new moustache:

Dscf1999
'But they said I couldn't get into Mexico without one!'

And the second is a shot of the JG homepage running on the iPhone:

Dsc01290
WANT.

Good work Jonno.

Football. But not as you know it.

761894402_f3589b01b0_2 Two weeks ago, the Justgiving Allstars ventured out of Clerkenwell and northwards for what was the first of hopefully many Cancer Research UK charity football tournaments.

Vicious, fearsome and deadly. These were just some of the wonderful smells originating from stalwart semi-employee James Grieves’ kitbag.

It’s been a while since we threw down the gauntlet to see if anyone would play us at a game of kickaround, and in true JG fashion, we went into all the matches with the same mindset as before: no Google maps print-out and only our cabbie-level knowledge of London. That’s how street we are with James Casey in the team. Sadly, he was in Coventry. So we were a little lost. Surprisingly, we made it on time.

As always, all the matches went down to the wire with some truly golden moments. Rohit scored an amazing equaliser in one game, with a stunning Beckham style free-kick. Resident kiwi Josie took to covering every blade of the pitch, making tackles here, there and everywhere. Even Molly “Posh” Loyd covered every on-target shot as our number one goalie. To the dismay of the JG faithful, the opposition soon latched on to the fact that if they shot the ball off-target, Molly would chase it down and then guide the ball into the back of the net.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to challenge us, then send an email and let’s go.

Whatever happens on tour, stays on tour

Allsevens Londoners out there won't have been able to avoid the torrential publicity around the Tour de France. There's been celeb bike giveaways and all sorts.

Aside from the yellow jerseys though, there's other bikey achievements going on at the same time. A team representing Jole Rider's bikes4Africa campaign will have completed 777 miles across 7 countries in 7 days, raising enough money to send 777 bikes to Africa so kids can ride to school.

The Allsevens team will have cycled to all 7 previous Tour de France departure cities when they reach the start of this year's event, which funnily enough starts on 07/07/07. Got the pattern yet?

Check out their fundraising page for more info, and if you've got £15 (for shipping) and an unused bike in your shed then visit their website so it can be put to good use. The Allsevens have a blog too which has got up-to-date info on their progress, as well as pictures of their very smart outfits. Best of luck guys.

It's oh so quiet

Jazzhands1Yeah sorry about that. Radio silence. All quiet on the western front. We're all still here, we promise.

There's literally a metric ton of cool stuff just on the horizon and we're working at getting it all perfect.

And I'm waiting for Jonno to hurry up with his next A-Z post.

Nudge.

HappyBean

Yesterday we had a visit from Korea's Beautiful Foundation. They run a website over there that is similar to Justgiving called HappyBean. Their mascot is the aforementioned HappyBean (who, if you haven't figured it out yet, signifies donations) and here he is in all his glory, in mobile phone trinket form:

Bean1

Check out their site here, we think the design is brilliant!

Creative Wanted

Caroline is heading off to the wilds of Devon, so we're looking for a brand new Content Editor here at JG Towers.

You can check out the full job spec, as well as all the other current vacancies (we need loads of developers please) at our jobs page.

Help Save the Cutty Sark

Cutty_sark_logo_large Anyone who's been to the BBC News website today will have seen the top story is about the devastating fire on the Cutty Sark this morning.

The news that one of London's most famous tourist attractions has been damaged has caused a great deal of sadness amongst the general population, as this feature, also on the BBC, shows.

The Chief Executive of the Cutty Sark Trust, Richard Doughty said:

A fire broke out this morning at 4.45am this morning at the Cutty Sark in Greenwich, which was put out by the London Fire Brigade by 06.28am.

The ship was undergoing a major conservation project and everyone involved in the project is devastated.

It was a quarter of the way through and so much work has already been carried out.

To help raise much needed funds for the Ship, and to collect messages of support, the Cutty Sark Trust have created a fundraising page on Justgiving at www.justgiving.com/cuttysarkfire

At 18.20 today, only an hour and a half after the page was created, it has already received over £800 in donations. If you would like to lend your support to them, you can contact them directly on 0208 858 2698 or click on the widget below:

All Your Newbies Are Belong To Us

Dscf0777It's wednesday; a day of figuring out who's going to get fired on tonight's Apprentice, and a day of annoying people we've recently hired with banal questions. This time in the hotseat is Mat Chambers, who is a new developer on the Sys Dev team. Those guys just love their data. Seriously.

So Mat, what inspires you as a developer?
Problem solving. It's not so much about the code, as making things work.

What's your most treasured possession?
My memories of diving, as they've provided me with some of the best sights I've ever seen. And sharks are amazingly cool! And turtles too!

Which word or phrase do you most overuse?
Like. Something along the lines of, 'You know, it's like, over there....' I've only started doing it this year and it's like, annoying me!

What's your favourite website and why?
That would be Google. Where else can you find out that there was a farmer in Illinois in 1870 with my name spelt properly and everything, all in less than two seconds?

Marmite. Yay or nay?
Oh YES YES YES YES YES. And yes. Does that answer your question?

Tell us one thing that none of us have found out about you yet...
I have a collection of Hawaiian shirts, and summer's coming so get your shades ready!

Thanks Mat. If you're interested in joining Team JG then check this out, we're having a hiring frenzy at the moment.

A new Newbie - Josie Brennan

In all the excitement about our new office move, we've forgotten to introduce our latest new person from New Zealand, Josie Brennan (we're all about the new at the moment).

Josie

She's already been here a month and it's now time to ask her, like Liz and Kai before, the tough questions John Humphreys wishes he could ask:

Where would you like to live?
Paris

What would your super power be?
Reading other people’s minds

Who would play you in the film of your life?
A young Jean Seberg (Who's she, Ed asks, breathlessly googling the name...)

What is your favourite book?
Two favourites – The Secret History by Donna Tartt, and V by Thomas Pynchon

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
“sweet”

What's your favourite website?
It’s trashy (and not work suitable), but I'd say www.perezhilton.com

What kind of biscuit would you be?
Anything chocolatey! (a Tim Tam perhaps?)

What's your secret talent?
I’m not too bad at the Six degrees of Kevin Bacon game

Tell us one thing about you that we'd only ever find out if we gave you one of these silly questionnaires...
I used to do surf lifesaving, and competed at the World Surf Lifesaving competition in Sydney 2000. (Ed - that maybe explains the Nouvelle Vague choice of actress...)

So, if there's ever a flood again at JG Towers, we know Josie will be here to save us all, thank goodness for that!

Settling in Nicely

A brand new week, a brand new set of JG Towers. This is our third home and it's certainly the poshest yet.

You Win, and Actually So Do We

Ttab_logoWe had a great email from John, who is the Chairman of a charity called To Transplant & Beyond. The background is simple: every now and then we have an email back-and-forth with A Small Charity who don't see the value in paying for a Justgiving subscription.

Molly came up with the great idea of making them a bet:

if they weren't totally happy using Justgiving, we'll donate the costs back to them.

Here's what John wrote back:

Hello Molly,

As Chairman of “To Transplant & Beyond” it’s my duty to eat a large portion of humble pie and say:

You Were Right!!!

Joining/using Justgiving is one of the best decisions we as a Very Small Charity have done.

You believed in your company to the point where you said  “if I was not happy you would donate the costs of us using your service”

Well I am more than happy, I have had donations from America, China and Australia, as well as the UK.Joining would have been worth while just to get the Gift Aid, which I would never have got round to ever setting up if it had not been for Just Giving’s help and advice.

Once again - You Win and Actually So Do We

Thank You

John

We like happy customers. High-fives all round. Check out more quotes and the JG news feed.

Bye bye Old Street, Hello St Cross St

As you can read in our Charity Blog, we're moving office this Friday, after 3 long, at first spacious, more recently cramped and sometimes even damp, years in Old Street.

To mark this momentous occasion, and in a fit of literary pique, I thought I'd pen a quick poem to commemorate the highs and lows of our time at number 20 (and Kai did some brilliant colouring in):

Poemtime_2

So. Farewell then 20 Old street.
Serving as our offices has been some feat:
Through floods and buds and extreme heat,
And Christmas trees that are hard to beat,

There're so many stories we could tell,
that would make it so very hard to sell
You to another company
But I'm too nice to tell them, me.

You've been our home for 3 long years,
So no doubt we will shed some tears,
when lorries arrive at JG Towers,
After we've been packing up for hours

To load up all our wires and leads
(not forgetting Molly's chillies).
For our spiritual home in Clerkenwell,
It's time for us to bid farewell.

Cannonball!

Cannonball Coming up in the first week of July is Cannonball Run Europe. Yes, think Burt Reynolds movie, fast cars, girls in jumpsuits, roughly half the rat pack, that sort of thing.

The Cannonballers have been using Justgiving for ages to raise funds for their nominated charity and this year is no exception. So far we've got:

Team Clapa - Colin and Paul are raising funds for CLAPA. Check out their page to see why.

Craig and Phil are raising funds for BLISS for their run. No word on the car yet but their page says they're in talks with Bentley, BMW, Nissan and Subaru, so the Justgiving Bentley might exist after all.

Just added is Craig and team Fastnet 993 who are supporting the RNLI in a Porsche 911! They're already nearly halfway to raising their target of £3000.

Dave and Bruce have their very own website and are raising funds for the Action for Brazil's Children Trust in their trusty beemer. Good luck guys!

Stephen is raising money for Cancer Research UK in a big Mercedes. Check out his progress here.

We'll be adding more Cannonballers as soon as they're on the site!

Kai made a video of stuff from the FLM Expo the other week. Much fun was had. Thanks again for coming along and giving us all the great feedback.
